Rider Hosts Marist Saturday at 1pm

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to Coppola Pool (Maurer Center) on Saturday, November 16, when the Broncs host Marist College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference dual meet at 1 p.m.

The Rider men are led by freshman Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and freshman Sam Cramer (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual).

Martir was named the MAAC Male Performer of the Week last week.

In Rider’s tri-meet at La Salle University and against the University of Delaware, the 6-0, 155 pound Martir finished first in both the 50 free (21.51) and 100 free (47.11) and finished second in the 100 fly (51.66).

Martir also swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay that placed second (3:06.83).

Martir swam for first place in the 50 free (21.60), the 100 free (47.22) and the 100 fly (51.52) and Cramer was the winner in the 200 free (1:43.42), 500 free (4:42.26) and 1000 free (10:03.40) in Rider’s dual meet win over Seton Hall.

The Bronc women are led by two-time MAAC Diver of the Week Heather Lonkert.

A 5-2 freshman from Moon Township, Pennsylvania (Moon Area High School), Lonkert won the one-meter dive (250.50) and was second on the three-meter board (264.80) in Rider’s dual meet at Seton Hall on October 17.

In her collegiate debut against UMBC on October 12, Lonkert won both the one and three-meter dives to earn MAAC honors.

Rider and Marist last met in Poughkeepsie, New York on November 17, 2012 when the Rider men won (178-123) and the Red Fox women won (177-122).

The Rider men have defeated Marist in six straight dual meets.  Marist has won three duals in a row over the Bronc women after Rider won three straight over the Red Foxes from 2007-08 through 2009-10.

The Rider men have won 10 of 22 duals over Marist and the Bronc women have won nine of 22 over the Red Foxes.

After the meet on Saturday, Rider returns to the pool December 6-8, competing at Princeton’s Big Al Open.
