Rider’s Cramer, Hiller MAAC Award Winners
EDISON—Freshman Sam Cramer and senior Trevor Hiller of the Rider University swimming and diving team were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Swimmer and Diver of the Week for all competition November 11-17, it was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Cramer (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.23, the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.64, and the 1000 yard freestyle finishing in 9:45.12 and was also on the winning 400 yard freestyle relay which posted a time of 3:11.14, as Rider defeated Marist in a dual meet on November 16.
“Sam has been steadily adjusting to the collegiate dual meet format,” said head coach Steve Fletcher, who saw another freshman, Matthan-Matthew Martir earn MAAC Swimmer of the Week honors last week. “Sam is racing with more control and confidence every week.”
Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) won both the one-meter dive with a score of 319.35, and three-meter dive posting a score of 304.42, in the dual meet win over the Red Foxes, earning MAAC recognition for the second time this season.
Hiller also reached the NCAA Zone Diving qualification mark for the third year in a row on both boards.
“Sweeping both boards against a strong Marist squad in qualifying fashion shows his progress this season,” said diving coach Eric Blevins. “He is diving more consistently and having the conference recognize him again is a huge honor.”
“Trevor is a leader both in and out of the pool,” Fletcher said. “He is a reliable weapon on both boards.”
As a junior, Hiller was a five-time MAAC Male Diver of the Week honoree and finished first in the one-meter dive (294.40) and second in the three-meter dive (260.40) at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, earning MAAC Diver of the Meet honors as Rider won the team title for the second year in a row.
Rider swims at Princeton’s Big Al Open December 6-8.
