Rider’s Cramer, Hiller Honored by the MAAC

EDISON—Rider University freshman swimmer Sam Cramer was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week and Bronc senior Trevor Hiller was recognized as the MAAC Male Diver of the Week it was announced Wednesday morning.

Both were honored for the week of December 2-8.

Swimming at Princeton’s ‘Big Al’ Open, one of the top competitions in the region this past weekend, Cramer was third in the 500 free (4:29.82), third in the 200 free (1:40.05) after moving up from seventh in the preliminaries and fourth in the 1650 free finishing in a Rider record time of 15:42.87.

Cramer, from Escondido, California (San Pasqual High School) led off the 800 free relay that swam 6:52.56 (with his time 1:41.58 for the first 200 leg) and he swam the second leg of the 400 free relay (3:05.98), swimming 46.45 during his leg of the race.

Diving against a field of NCAA qualifiers, Hiller from Galloway Township (Absegami High School), more than held his own at Princeton’s ‘Big Al’, finishing third in the finals of the one-meter competition (301.45) and eighth in the finals of the three-meter (255.30).

Hiller is now a three-time NCAA Zone qualifier.

“Trevor’s performance at Princeton was a long time coming,” said diving coach Eric Blevins.  “He was finally able to use his experience to his advantage.  The Princeton competition features about 15 divers that he will see at NCAAs and the fact that he was third on the one-meter, against the top divers in the region, shows he is ready to compete against tough competitors.  He continues to improve each week and it is great that the conference recognized his efforts.”

As a junior, Hiller was a five-time MAAC Male Diver of the Week honoree and finished first in the one-meter dive (294.40) and second in the three-meter dive (260.40) at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, earning MAAC Diver of the Meet honors as Rider won the team title for the second year in a row.

This is the second time this season that Hiller and Cramer have been honored in the same week (November 20) and the third conference recognition for Hiller this season (October 19, November 20).

Rider hosts Georgetown on December 20 at 3 p.m., in the Maurer Center at Coppola Pool in the final competition of the fall semester.
