VILLANOVA, PA—The Rider men’s basketball team will take its three-game winning streak to Villanova Saturday to take on the eighth ranked Wildcats.

The Wildcats’ wins over Southern Cal, Kansas and Iowa propelled them into the top 10 in the national rankings and have since moved up to eighth.

Villanova is led by senior guard James Bell and junior forward JayVaughn Pinkston, who are combining for 32.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.

Rider (5-4) has won its last three games, including its first two MAAC games, and is coming off a 21-point win over Wagner. Against Wagner the Broncs jumped out to a 19-3 lead and never looked back.

Rider has been led by senior Daniel Stewart (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti), who has compiled 63 points and 22 rebounds over the last three games. For the season he is averaging 16.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. For his career Stewart has 1,116 points and 748 rebounds.  His point total is 28th most ever at Rider while his rebound total is eighth most.

Rider sophomore Zedric Sadler (Detroit, Mich/Cody), who missed all of preseason and the first game of the year with a knee injury, compiled 20 points and eight rebounds in the recent win over Wagner.  He is averaging 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Freshman point guard Jimmie Taylor III (Branford, Fla./Suwannee) is contributing 12.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while senior Anthony Myles (Dover, DE/Poly-Tech) is adding a team-high 18.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Rider last played Villanova during the 2006-07 season, losing 108-61. Rider lost 86-57 to Villanova during the 2005-06 season. Rider and ‘Nova have met 23 times since the series began in 1937-38 with Rider winning in 1944-45 and in 1945-46.

In recent years Rider is 1-4 against national top-20 teams, losing by 21 points to #12 Florida (12/9/11), losing by just eight points to #10 Pittsburgh (11/13/11), losing by nine points to #3 Pittsburgh (12/4/10) and losing by 29 points to #4 Kentucky (11/21/09). Rider defeated #18 Mississippi State by 14 points to begin the 2009-10 season.
