Rider Hosts Central Connecticut State University Saturday
LAWRENCEVILLE—Fresh off a riveting overtime victory over Binghamton on December 14, the Rider University women’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday at 2pm when the Broncs host Central Connecticut State University, in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
Rider (3-5) continues to be led by All-Conference and All-MET performer, senior captain MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco).
McKenzie dropped a career-high 27 points on the Bearcats and added a career-high 20 rebounds as the Broncs came from behind late for the win.
McKenzie, who is averaging 19.0 points and 11.9 rebounds this season, is now 10th on the all-time scoring list at Rider and she is also third on the all-time rebounding list as a Bronc.
Under the radar but equally important has been the play of sophomore Mikal Johnson (Manassas, Va./Osbourn).
Johnson, who was named to the All-Tournament team at the Navy Classic, is averaging 18 points in her last two contests and she is averaging 9.8 points per game this season.
Johnson scored 16 points in the win over Binghamton.
CCSU (5-3) won at Vermont 82-68 on December 8 and were snowed out against UMass-Lowell on December 15.
Rider and Central Connecticut last met exactly one year ago on December 21, 2012, when the Broncs lost in overtime at Detrick Gym by a 62-61 score.
Saturday is the ninth meeting all-time between the former East Coast Conference rivals with the Broncs leading the series 5-3.
The teams last met in Alumni Gym on February 15, 1992 (7,981 days ago) when Rider won 72-64 behind 22 points from Jen Feeney and 20 points by Rider Hall of Famer and all-time leading scorer Debbie Snyder.
