Rider at Midlands Day One, Session One

Rider 14th of 47 Teams

EVANSTON, ILL—The Broncs won 13 of 23 matches in Session One at the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University.

Session Two begins at 8pm Eastern Time tonight.

Junior Donald McNeil (Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary), the 10th seed at 197, defeated the seventh seed, Nick Whittenburg of E. Michigan in the second round and will now face the second seed, Christian Boley of Maryland in the quarterfinals tonight.

McNeil defeated Garret Goldman of Indiana 12-8 in the first round

Sophomore Robert Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional), the sixth seed at 125, will now face the third seed, Cory Clark of Iowa, in the quarterfinals

Deutsch defeated Billy Prochniewski of George Mason in the first round

Sunday evening senior Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville), the sixth seed at 165, will face Cedric Gibson of Wisconsin in the consolations. Santiago lost 6-5 to Josh Snook of Maryland in the second round. Santiago defeated Curt Maas of Northern Iowa 13-2 in the first round to improve to 10-3.

Rider junior Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway) is alive in consolations and will now face Chasen Tolbert of Utah State.

Zeisloft defeated Pat Myers of S. Illinois 4-1 and defeated Kyle Springer of Indiana 7-4 in consolations. Zeisloft lost 6-2 to the 11th seed, Jose Mendoza of Call Bakersfield in the first round.

Wrestling unattached, freshman 149 Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) won by medical forfeit against the second seed, Darron Caldwell of RAW. In consolations, Walsh defeated Kyle Chene of Cal Poly 4-3 and pinned the 12th seed, Colin Shober of Northwestern in 3:10.

Walsh, who is red-shirting this year but has compiled a 17-2 record wrestling unattached, lost 9-2 to the fifth seed, Eric Grajasles of Michigan in the second round, after both received first round byes.

Sophomore Greg Velasco (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) is alive in consolations after defeating Jared Torrence of N. Illinois 3-2. Velasco will face Cody Krumweide of Northern Iowa tonight.

After a first round bye Velasco lost 4-0 to the 11th seed, Evan Knutson of North Dakota State in the second round.

Sophomore Curt Delia (Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea) is alive in consolations and will next face Brandon Sorensen of Iowa. In consolations, Delia pinned the ninth seed, Gabe Morse of N. Illinois and defeated Cortlandt Choate of Brown 11-3.

Delia lost 9-0 to John Fahy of Illinois in the first round.

Sophomore Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) was 1-2. In consolations Brennan was pinned (4:13) by the sixth seed, Tony Dallago of Illinois,  Brennan defeated Pat Kissel of Purdue 7-3 in sudden victory in the first round before losing to the fifth seed, Cody Caldwell of Northern Iowa 5-3 in the second round.

Freshman Wayne Stinson (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) went 0-2. In consolations Stinson lost 11-6 to Andrew Murano of F&M. Stinson received a first round bye before losing 12-4 to the seventh seed, Markus Sheidel of Columbia in the second round.

Freshman Paul Kirchner (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) went 0-1. Kirchner was pinned by Will Switzer of Lehigh in the first round and in consolations lost by medical forfeit.
