Rider’s Higgins MAAC Male Performer of the Week
Also Honored by the ECAC
EDISON— Freshman Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph) of the Rider University track and field team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Performer of the Week for all competition January 6-12, it was announced Tuesday morning.
Higgins was also recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as its Corvais Track Performer of the Week.
In only his second collegiate meet, Higgins won the 200m (22.34) and placed second in the 400 (49.66), qualifying for the IC4A in both events as Rider competed at the Army Four-Way Invite on January 11 as the Rider men placed runner-up.
“Lamont is definitely a talented individual,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “He is an example of if you go home over winter break and work really hard, you will be rewarded. He’s a competitor and with continued hard work, he will be something special.”
Higgins opened his collegiate career at Princeton’s New Year Invitational in December, winning the 60 meter with a time of 7.00.
Rider runs at the NYU Saturday night shootout on January 18, at 6 p.m., at the 168th Street Armory in New York.
