Roberts sets Rider record in pole vault
BOSTON, Mass.--The Rider University women's track and field teams competed at Boston University's Terrier Invitational Friday.
The all-day meet took place at the BU Track and TennisCenter.
For the Rider women, sophomore Miranda Roberts (Sewell/Washington Twp.) finished in a four way tie for seventh place in the pole vault, setting a new Rider record by reaching 3.35m (10’11.75”).
Roberts broke her own record set in 2013 and that of Rebecca Clatch who also cleared 10'10" in 2008 at the Armory.
“We had some solid performances today but the highlight was Miranda’s Rider record in the pole vault,” head coach Bob Hamer said, “She had a tough start to the indoor season and she has responded with some really good performances over the last few weeks. I’m very excited for her and we’re hopeful that she can get over 11 feet the next time she vaults.”
Also for the Rider women, sophomore Olivia Rosenberger (North Whales, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) finished 15th in the long jump (5.16m), sophomore Andrea McKenna (Parlin/St. John Vianney) was 15th in the weight throw (14.39m) and junior Taylor Harmon (Robbinsville) was 18th in the high jump (1.55m).
“Unfortunately we did not get the kind of performances we expect at a meet of this caliber,” Hamer said. “We made progress from last week but our expectations are high for the program and we need to meet those expectations. And today we didn’t.”
Sophomore Madeline Hummel (Marlton/Holy Cross) was 31st in the 800 meter run (2:17.51), sophomore La'tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) was 32nd in the 400 meter dash (57.72) and freshman Chinwe Igwe (West Orange) was 33rd in the shot put (10.41m).
The Rider men will run in the Terrier Invitational Saturday and the women will run the Distance Medley relay. Both the Bronc men and women will host The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in a dual meet on Saturday February 1.
