PISCATAWAY—In the final regular season competition before the conference championships, the Rider University men’s team split two meets, defeating Fordham before losing to Yale and the Bronc women lost to Rutgers and Fordham on Saturday in a quad meet hosted by Rutgers.

“The coaches were really pleased with how both teams managed a tough environment while competing tired,” said head coach Steve Fletcher.  “We had quite a few bright spots as we head into the two and a half weeks until the MAAC championships.”

For the Rider men, freshman Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, Md./Old Mill) won the 50 free with a time of 21.71 and he was fourth in the 100 free (47.22) and 200 fly (51.77).  Martir is a two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Performer of the Week honoree with the last recognition coming last week after he won three events and led off a winning relay in Rider’s conference win over Saint Peter’s.

For the Rider women, freshman Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough) was second in the 50 free (24.62) and 100 free (54.52) and junior Carlee Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) was third in the 200 free (1:56.03).

Also for the Bronc men, freshman Sam Cramer (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) was second in the 500 free (4:45.38) and third in the 1000 free (9:53.67), senior diver Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) was second on one-meter (298.05), freshman William Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North) was third in the 500 free (4:47.49), sophomore Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) was third in the 100 breast (59.24), freshman Zach Mabin (Hamilton/Steinert) placed third in the 200 breast (2:11.75), sophomore Jeffrey Prichard (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) was third in the 50 free (22.05) and sophomore diver Wayco Bailey (Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS) was third on the three-meter (284.30).

Also for the Bronc women, freshman diver Heather Lonkert (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) was third on the one-meter board (238.30) with sophomore Emma Billerbeck (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) placing third on the three-meter board (249.45).

The men’s 200 medley relay of Martir, Phillips, junior Shane Tubb (Swedesboro/St. Augustine Prep) and freshman Ian Flynn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) was second with a time of 1:36.55.

The MAAC Championships are February 13-15 in Buffalo, New York.

“We got through the challenging winter training with the team showing great attitudes,” Fletcher added.  “They all worked hard and are ready to compete at MAACs.”

The Rider men are the two-time defending conference champions with the Bronc women placing runner-up.
