Men’s Indoor College Track and Field
at Boston University Terrier Invite

BOSTON, Mass.--The Rider University men’s track and field teams competed at BostonUniversity's Terrier Invitational Saturday.

The all-day meet took place at the BU Track and Tennis Center.

For the Rider men, junior David Prater (Columbus/Northern Burlington) finished sixth in the triple jump (14.16m), senior Steven Brown (Penns Grove) finished seventh in the triple jump (14.00m) and freshman Kyle Bryant (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill East) finished eighth in the long jump (6.21m) and ninth in the triple jump (13.95m).

“The men had a very good day,” said head coach Bob Hamer.  “We had many personal bests, IC4A qualifiers and great efforts. I was very pleased with the way the men competed.  The field events have been improving each week. The athletes are finally taking some risks in the meets and it is paying off. They’re working hard in practice and results are showing.”

Also for the Rider men, senior Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington) finished 10th in the 200 meter dash (21.77) and 22nd in the 400 meter dash (48.80), running IC4A qualifying times in both events. Junior Nasser Zayer (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech) finished 10th in the 3000-meter run (8:34.64).

“(Wilvenson) Baptiste is having a really good season. He’s stepping up and is having his best indoor season to date and we’re very excited to watch his progress for the remainder of the year,” Hamer said.

Sophomore Darien Edwards (South Orange/St. Benedicts) was 12th in the 800-meter run (1:53.27) in IC4A qualifying time, junior Andrew Pozo (Forked River/Toms River HS South) was 14th in the weight throw (15.57), and freshman Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph’s High School-Metuch) was 15th in the 400-meter dash (48.49) and 26th in the 200-meter dash (22.07). Higgins ran IC4A qualifying times in both events.

“It’s nice to get the IC4A qualifiers out of the way so we can focus on the training and competing in the championship meets,” Hamer added.
