Rider Travels to Saint Peter’s Friday

ESPN3 to Broadcast Hourglass Rivalry Game

JERSEY CITY, NJ—The Rider men’s basketball team will play on ESPN3 Friday at 7pm, as the Broncs take on Saint Peter’s in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.

The game is also part of the Hourglass Rivalry.

Since Saint Peter’s, Monmouth and Rider are all about an hour from each other, the three-way rivalry between the NJ MAAC teams called the HourGlass was established this year. Similar to the MAAC’s Commissioner Cup, the annual winner of the HourGlass will be decided by the competition of all sports between the three.

Rider recently defeated Monmouth in overtime and Saint Peter’s recently defeated Rider, on January 16. In that game Saint Peter’s made 31 of 35 foul shots, while Rider made 17 of 22.  The Peacocks won by eight points, 77-69.

The Peacocks (7-12, 3-7 MAAC) have lost three straight since winning at Rider, while the Broncs (10-9, 6-4 MAAC) have won three of their last five games.

Rider has won 13 of the last 17 meetings with Saint Peter's, including five in a row before falling two weeks ago. Since joining the MAAC Rider is 24-15 against Saint Peter's. The two teams have met 54 times since the series began in 1942-43, with Rider winning 29.

Saint Peter’s is led by junior forward Marvin Dominique, who is averaging 17.5 points and 8.7 rebounds. Junior guard Desi Washington compiled 21 points, making four three-pointers, in the Peacocks win at Rider.

In Rider’s win over Monmouth on January 26 senior Tommy Pereira (Nottingham, England/Canarias Basketball Academy) came in off the bench and made six of seven three-point shots for a career-high 20 points in 22 minutes of action.

In that game senior Daniel Stewart (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) moved into fourth on Rider’s all-time rebound list with 806. Stewart already ranks 22nd in career scoring with 1,264 points.

Senior Anthony Myles (Dover, DE/Poly-Tech) is right behind Stewart with 1,254 career points, averaging a team-high 17.9 per game this year.

Following the trip to Jersey City Rider will be home for the first two games of February, hosing Fairfield Monday night and Marist February 6. The Marist game will also be on ESPN3.
