Code Cranberry for Varsity Athletes

Breast Cancer Awareness Day

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Alumni Gymnasium transforms into the Broncs’ Zoo Thursday night when Rider University hosts ESPN3 on Code Cranberry.

The Rider women (10-11, 6-6 MAAC), winners of two of their last three games and three of their last five, host first place Iona at 6pm.

The Rider men (12-9, 8-4 MAAC), winners of three in a row and five of the last seven, host Marist at 8:30pm.

Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3, the live multi-screen online network at WatchESPN.com.

Thursday is also Code Cranberry, an initiative designed to express a unified show of support among varsity athletes at Rider.

In addition to Code Cranberry it is Pink Day so fans should join coaches and players and wear pink in support of cancer research awareness. Anyone wearing pink to either game can get a $2 discount on a general admission ticket.  Additionally, players in both games will have pink laces in their shoes and pink mini-balls will be on sale with all proceeds going to charity.

The Rider women are coming off a MAAC win at Manhattan Saturday afternoon and are led by MAAC Player of the Year candidate MyNeshia McKenzie.

One of only two Broncs to ever compile both 1,000 points (1,397) and 1,000 rebounds (1,016), McKenzie is second in the MAAC in both scoring (19.1) and rebounding (10.9) and needs just eight rebounds to break the Rider career mark that has stood since 1996.

Iona (19-2, 12-0 MAAC) has won its last 18 games, and is led by the MAAC’s leading scorer, Damika Martinez (24.8), and the MAAC’s leading rebounder, Joy Adams (13.8).

The Gaels have won five of the last seven meetings with Rider. Rider’s last win over Iona was during the 2011-12 season.

The Rider men are enjoying their second three-game winning streak of the season, having defeated Fairfield Monday.

The Broncs have been led by seniors Anthony Myles and Daniel Stewart and freshman Jimmie Taylor III.

Myles is sixth in the MAAC in scoring (17.4) and 22nd on Rider’s career scoring list (1,280).

Stewart is third in the MAAC in free throw percentage and seventh in three-point field goal percentage. Stewart is averaging 15.6 points per game, 11th best in the MAAC, and is grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game, also 11th in the MAAC.  Stewart ranks 21st in career scoring at Rider (1,291) and third in career rebounding (824).

Taylor is second in the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage (.472), 13th in overall field goal percentage (.463), 14th in the MAAC in assists (2.4) and 26th in the MAAC in scoring (11.0).

The Marist Red Foxes have won their last two games and three of their last five since losing to Rider on January 18 (66-56). Marist is led by Chavaughn Lewis, who is averaging 17.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

If you can't make the games Thursday, be sure to watch on your computer on ESPN3.
