PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Rider wrestling team will seek lucky win number 13 when it takes on one of its oldest and closest rivals, Drexel University at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 7pm tonight.
The Broncs (12-5) and Dragons (5-13) have met 40 times since the series began in 1970-71, with Rider winning 32, including the last five meetings.
Rider and Drexel are former East Coast Conference, East Coast Wrestling Association and Colonial Athletic Association rivals.
Rider won 26-12 over Drexel last season in Lawrenceville. The last time Drexel beat Rider was during the 2006-07 season.
The Broncs have been led by 125 pound sophomore Robert Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional), who owns a 23-4 overall record, is 17-1 in dual meets, and is currently ranked 12th in the nation.
Other key Broncs include 174 pound sophomore Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.), who is 19-7 overall, 184pound junior Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), who is 12-3, 165 pound senior Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville), who is 14-11, 133 pound junior Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway), who is 18-11, and 149 pound sophomore Curt Delia (Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea), who is 16-10 overall.
Drexel is led by 197 pound Brandon Palik, ranked first in the EIWL and 20th in the nation.
The last time Rider won 13 matches in a season was 2009-10, when the Broncs finished the dual meet season 15-6.
Rider returns to Alumni Gymnasium Sunday for the final time this season, hosting another long-time nemesis, Hofstra, at 5pm. Prior to that match Rider’s graduating seniors, Ramon Santiago and Jim Resnick will be honored.
