BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Rider University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Thursday-Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Rider men won its third straight MAAC Championship with a total of 731 points, topping runner-up Marist (689 points) by 42 points. 

The Rider women finished second for the fourth straight season with 595 points behind the 14-time champion Marist (801 points).

Senior Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) was named Male Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet for the second year in a row. Hiller won MAAC gold in the one-meter dive and placed third in the three-meter dive this weekend.

Rider men’s and women’s coach Steve Fletcher was named MAAC Men’s Coach of the Year.

For the Rider men on Saturday, freshman Sam Cramer (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) won MAAC gold in the 1650 meter free (15:34.66).

For the Rider women, freshman Heather Lonkert (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon Area) won MAAC gold in the one meter dive (253.85).

Also for the Rider men, junior Shane Tubb (Swedesboro/St. Augustine Prep) finished third in the 200 meter fly (1:51.70), sophomore Jeffrey Prichard (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) was third in the 200 meter back (1:49.26), freshman Zach Mabin (Hamilton/Steinert) was fourth in the 1650 free (15:53.91) and sixth in the 200 breast (2:05.64), freshman Daniel Andronov (Princeton) was fifth in the 200 breast (2:05.61),  freshman Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, Md./Old Mill) finished fifth in the 100 free (46.19), freshman Ian Flynn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) was sixth in the 100 free (46.48), freshman William Molloy (Toms River/Toms River North) finished eighth in the 100 free (46.98) and sophomore Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) was eighth in the 200 breast (2:06.19).

Also for the Rider women, junior Carlee Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) finished third in the 200 back (2:02.34), senior Melanie Leonhard (Piscataway) was third in the 1650 free (17:29.38), freshman Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough) was fourth in the 100 free (52.15), junior Heather Good (Hillsborough) was fifth in the 200 breast (2:25.64), junior Gess Charniga (Kendall Park/South Brunswick) was sixth in the 100 free (52.92), junior Morgan Kandrac (Hamilton/Notre Dame) was eighth in the 200 breast (2:26.41), sophomore Emma Billerbeck (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) finished eighth in the one meter dive (172.65), sophomore Katelyn O’Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was eighth in the 200 fly (2:12.46).

Other men’s results include senior Sean Newhouse (Katy, Texas/Morton Ranch) placing 11th in the 100 free (46.88) and freshman Denny Atkinson (Lancaster, Pa./Holmdel) was 12th in the 1650 free (16:30.54)

Other women’s results include sophomore Taylor Shelley (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) placing ninth in the 200 breast (2:25.44) and sophomore Megan Radolec (Severn, Md./Old Mill) was ninth in the 200 back (2:07.40), sophomore Erin Westcott (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) was 10th in the 200 fly (2:10.44), freshman Ariana Palmer (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) was 11th in the 100 free (53.68), senior Danielle Warwick (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) was 15th in the 200 back (2:11.15), sophomore Virginia Bresko (Bay Shore, N.Y./West Islip) was 15th in the one meter dive (158.00), senior Megan Mullaney (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) was 15th in the 200 breast (2:29.40 and freshman Kendall Bundy (Denver, Colo./Denver South) was 16th in the 200 back (2:11.32).

The men’s 400 free relay team of Prichard, Newhouse, Martir and Flynn finished second in 3:03.85

The women’s 400 free relay team of Parker, Charniga, Palmer and Oswald finished fourth in 5:31.71.

Rider has won four men’s titles (2004, 2012, 2013, 2014) and the Bronc men have placed runner-up 14 times since 1996.  The Bronc women have won three team titles (2001, 2003, 2009) and have placed runner-up 13 times since 1998.

Next up for the Bronc men and women is the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships from Feb 28-March 2 in AnnapolisMaryland.
