Rider Hosts Monmouth on Code Cranberry
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University women’s basketball team hosts Monmouth University on Wednesday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at 7:00pm in Alumni Gymnasium.
Rider (12-13, 8-8 MAAC) enters play having lost on Sunday at first place Iona College 73-66.
The Broncs are led by MAAC Player of the Year candidate, senior MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) who is averaging 19.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
Her rebounding average is 15th best in the nation.
Rider opened the month of February with three straight wins, moving into fifth place in the MAAC with the Broncs trying to avoid the play-in day of the conference tournament March 6-10 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Monmouth enters play having lost five straight games.
The Hawks are led by Chevannah Paalvast who is averaging 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Former Northeast Conference and now MAAC rivals, tonight marks the 37th meeting between Monmouth and Rider with the Hawks leading the series 25-11.
The teams last met on January 5 when the Broncs won 64-53 after opening the game with a 10-0 run, holding the Hawks scoreless for the first 7:39.
This is an Hour Glass rivalry game with the New Jersey MAAC schools (Monmouth, Rider, Saint Peter’s) competing in all sports with the winner being announced at the end of the spring season.
The game on Friday is also Code Cranberry. Code Cranberry was initiated several years ago to bolster support among Rider's student-athletes with other varsity teams attending each other's games and competitions on designated nights during the season.
If you can't make the game, all non-televised home games can be seen in high definition on BroncVision and MAAC.TV as part of Rider's pay per view service powered by GoBroncs.com.
The audio will be simulcast on the video stream with Jeff Nolan and Dick Wiseman bringing you all of the action. The games can also be heard on 107.7 FM The Bronc and on 1077thebronc.com via links provided on GoBroncs.com.
