College Softball – Aggie Invitational
Morgan State 7, Rider University 3

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Despite three hits from senior Kehli Washington (Lulea, Sweden/New Rochelle), the Rider University softball team lost 7-3 to Morgan State on the second day of the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T Saturday morning.

Rider (0-3) jumped out to a 1-0, first inning lead when Washington led off with a single and stole second base with sophomore Dana Sensi (Allentown)lining a one-out, single to leftfield on a 2-0 count, giving the Broncs a one-run advantage.

Morgan State (2-3) had four of its nine hits in the bottom of the first, scoring four times on an RBI single, passed ball and a two-run home run off Bronc starter, freshman Megan McDonough (Olney, Md./Sherwood).

Rider used an RBI single by sophomore Emily Cottrell (Beachwood/Toms River HS South) and two Morgan State errors to cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the third.  Cottrell, who homered yesterday against Maryland Eastern Shore, went two for two in the game.

Morgan State put the lead back to three with two runs on three hits in the fourth inning and the Bears converted a leadoff walk into a run after an RBI triple in the sixth inning for the final score.

The Broncs had amble opportunities to score but left 12 runners on base.

Also for Rider, freshman Amanda Crimarco (Levittown, N.Y./Kellenberg) continued her strong start to her college career with two hits, including a double.  Crimarco celebrated her birthday on Friday by hitting a home run in only her fourth collegiate at-bat against Maryland Eastern Shore.

McDonough took the loss for Rider, lasting one inning, while allowing four earned runs.

Rider will play Coppin State at 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon and the Broncs will face Maryland Eastern Shore and North Carolina A&T on Sunday, also in Greensboro.

The 2014 home opener is March 30 when the Broncs host Saint Peter’s University at 1 p.m., for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader.
