Rider’s Thomas Honored by MAAC
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University first baseman Justin Thomas was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played March 11-17.
A junior from Richboro, PA (Council Rock South), the 6’4”, 215 pound Thomas batted .500 in four games last week with a slugging percentage of 1.071.
“Justin has started to really come around,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis. “We are seeing overall improvement in his entire game. It's good to see. A well deserved honor for his play last week.”
Last week Thomas had seven hits, including two home runs and two doubles, with eight RBI. He walked twice, hit a sacrifice fly and stole a base. In the field he handled 38 chances without an error.
In a doubleheader at Western Carolina Thomas hit two home runs and collected five RBI while scoring three times.
Against Wagner Thomas had two hits, including a double and an RBI.
For the season Thomas is batting .333 with 18 hits in 15 games. His slugging percentage this season is .611, 63rd in the nation.
He currently leads Rider in batting, slugging, hits, doubles, home runs and RBI. He has hit safely in 12 of the 15 games this season.
Thomas is a career .291 hitter with 111 career hits in 113 games (101 starts).
Rider plays in North Carolina at Gardner-Webb Tuesday and at Charlotte Wednesday. Rider will play a 12 noon doubleheader Saturday at NJIT. The home opener is Sunday, March 23, with a 1pm game against NJIT.
