Rider at Lafayette 8-Way Invitational
Men 1st / Women 3rd
EASTON, Pa.—The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Lafayette 8-Way Invitational on Saturday afternoon with the men first among seven teams and the Bronc women placing third of eight teams.
“We had a decent meet considering the rain, cold and wind,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “The horizontal jumpers were very good and we were able to get wins in the long jump and triple jump.”
For the Rider men, junior George Solujich (East Windsor/Notre Dame) won the shot put (15.47m) and the discus (53.37m), freshman Wil Asamoah (Edison) won the 110m hurdles in a time of 15.64, senior Greg Smith (Milford/Delaware Valley) won the long jump (6.59m) and freshman Kyle Bryant was a winner in the triple jump (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill HS East) (13.75m).
"Solujich had a really nice weekend,” Hamer said. “He won two events and set a new PR in the other. George did well mainly due to his attitude. He didn’t let the elements affect his preparation or execution. He just went out, competed and did his job.”
Solujich was ninth in the hammer with a career-best distance of 42.51m, placing ninth.
For the Rider women, sophomore Dashana Ransome (Irvington) won the 100 meter hurdles (17.04), freshman Juliann Brand (Egg Harbor Twp.) won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.69, sophomore Olivia Rosenberger (North Wales, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) won the long jump (5.19m) and senior Lauryn Strebeck (Dayton/South Brunswick) was victorious in the triple jump with a distance of 11.07m.
Both teams won the Lafayette Invitational last season.
Rider travels to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia April 4-5.
“We are looking forward to the Colonial’s this coming weekend,” Hamer added. “We are really looking forward to hopefully some nice weather.”
