Rider Hosts Manhattan on Saturday for Senior Day
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University softball team continues its 10-game home stand by hosting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Manhattan College on Saturday, at Herb and Joan Young Field.
First pitch of the MAAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Rider (4-29, 2-6 MAAC) sophomore Dana Sensi (Allentown) continues to pace the Bronc offense with a .292 average (26/89) and junior Gina McCool (Marlton/Cherokee) enters play riding a six-game hitting streak and she has reached base safely in 10 straight games.
Freshman Delany DeMello (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) leads the Rider pitching staff in appearances with 14.
Manhattan (15-21, 5-5 MAAC) enters play having lost at Siena College on Friday, 8-2 and 6-5, snapping the Jaspers six-game winning streak.
In between games of the doubleheader, Rider will honor its graduating seniors, Mary Rossi (Trenton/Notre Dame) and Kehli Washington (Lulea, Sweden, New Rochelle) as the Broncs host their final weekend doubleheader of the season.
The Broncs and Jaspers have met 32 times with Rider winning 16 in the all-time series. Last season, Rider was swept at Manhattan 13-1 and 5-1.
In 2012, Rider swept Manhattan in Lawrenceville, winning 4-0 and 6-4. Rider and Manhattan met in 2011 in Riverdale, when the Jaspers swept the two-game set, 1-0 and 6-3, despite the Broncs out-hitting the Jaspers in both games.
Rider and Manhattan split two games in Lawrenceville in 2010 with the Broncs winning 7-5 after losing 12-0 in the opener. In 2009, the teams split two MAAC games in Riverdale. In 2008 and 2007, the teams also split their two conference games. Manhattan swept Rider in 2006 and 2005 and the teams split in 2004.
After the games on Saturday, Rider continues the home stand with a makeup MAAC doubleheader against Saint Peter’s on Monday, beginning at 2:00 p.m, before hosting Lafayette in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
