Rider at Larry Ellis Invitational – Day One
Two Rider Records Set

PRINCETON—The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams are competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend, hosted by Princeton University.

“We had a great night of distance races tonight,” said head coach Bob Hamer.  “We posted four personal records, three IC4A/ECAC qualifiers and two Rider records fell.  When you come to a meet like this, you hope the athletes will take advantage of the competition and the environment and have that great race that you dream of.  Tonight was the night.”

On day one for the Rider women, junior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) was ninth in the 1500 meter with a Rider record time of 4:28.76, qualifying for ECACs.

“Emily ran a very determined and smart event to post one of her best races of her career.  She is definitely on a new level right now.”

For the Rider men on Friday, junior George Solujich (East Windsor/Notre Dame) was fifth in the shot put (15.70m) with senior George Osti (Union) finishing 13th in the hammer throw (50.47m) and 17th in the shot put (13.32m).

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, junior Dylan Hallahan (Wrightstown/Northern Burlington Regional) was 26th with a time of 9:11.96, setting a personal best and qualifying for the IC4As.

“Hallahan ran a great steeple,” Hamer said.  “For him to come from where he was when he got to Rider to be an IC4A qualifier is amazing.”

Also for the Bronc women, freshman Chinwe Igwe (West Orange) was 11th in the discus throw with a distance of 37.00m, graduate student Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) was 29th in the 5000 meter with a Rider record time of 17:12.52 to qualify for ECACs and sophomore Nicolette Mateescu (Kendall Park/South Brunswick) was 45th in the 5000 meter with a personal best time of 17:50.71.

“Elgin has been knocking on the door for that big break through,” Hamer said.  “I was very happy to see her finally get an ECAC qualifier.  She has been through a lot and is having a great outdoor season.”

Rider competes at Princeton again on Saturday with the balance of the team competing at the Greyhound Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
