Rider Hosts Saint Peter’s Monday

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University softball team is home on Monday, hosting Saint Peter’s University in a makeup Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader. The original games on March 30 were rained out.

First pitch for the Hourglass Rivalry DH is 2:00 p.m., at Herb and Joan Young Field.

Rider (4-31, 2-8 MAAC) enters play having lost to Manhattan College on Saturday, 4-3 in eight innings in the opener and 6-2 in the nightcap. The Broncs led 3-0 in game one against the Jaspers.

Sophomore Dana Sensi (Allentown) had three hits in the doubleheader against Manhattan and she enters play as the leading hitter on the team with a .305 batting average (29/95).

Freshman Delany DeMello (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) leads the Bronc pitching staff with 15 appearances and she has half of the wins for Rider this season.

The 100 hit watch continues for three players with junior Gina McCool (Marlton/Cherokee) entering play with 95 hits, junior Amanda Irving (Westminster, Md./Westminster) begins the week with 93 hits and junior Allysen Breeden (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) has 89 career hits. 45 players in the 37 years of the Rider softball program have reached the century mark in hits.

Saint Peter’s (9-31, 3-7 MAAC) enters play having been swept at Monmouth University 4-0 and 7-6 on Saturday in MAAC play.

Rider and Saint Peter’s last met on March 30, 2013 when the Broncs lost 4-1 in the opener before rebounding for an 11-2 win to split the MAAC series.

Rider and Saint Peter's split two MAAC Games in 2012 with the Broncs winning the opener behind a no-hitter from Rachel Matreale.

In 2011, Rider and Saint Peter's met in Jersey City with the teams splitting the MAAC doubleheader with the Broncs rebounding in the nightcap 6-0 after a 2-1 opening game loss. Rider swept Saint Peter's to open conference play in 2010 and overall the Broncs have won 29 of the 51 games in the series.

Today is the seventh and eighth games of a 10-game home stand for the Broncs with Rider scheduled to host Lafayette in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
