Rider at IC4As/ECACs – Day Three
Bryant / Higgins All-East
PRINCETON—The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Princeton Friday-Sunday with the men at the 138th IC4A and the women at the 31th Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
On Sunday for the Rider men at IC4As, freshman Kyle Bryant (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill HS East) was fourth in the high jump with a height of 2.04m (6’8.25”), earning All-East honors.
“This was a great accomplishment for Kyle,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “We always preach to our athletes to do what they can to qualify for this meet and if you do that, you have an excellent chance for success and that is exactly what happened.”
Freshman Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph HS (Metuchen)) was seventh in the 400 meter finals with a time of 48.86, also earning All-East honors. On Saturday in the preliminaries, Higgins broke a Rider 400 meter record that stood for 19 years, running a time of 47.72.
“Lamont had a great finish to his freshman season,” said Hamer.
On Sunday for the Rider women at ECACs senior Lauryn Strebeck (Dayton/South Brunswick) was ninth in the triple jump with a distance 12.12m (39’9.25”).
“Lauryn competed well to place ninth,” Hamer said. “She was nowhere near the ninth seed coming in and she did what she always does, she competes. She had a great career at Rider and accomplished a lot.”
Also for the Broncs on Friday for Rider women at ECACs, junior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) earned All-East in the steeplechase with a third place finish, running a Rider record 10:21.82.
“We had a very good weekend,” Hamer added. “We qualified one of the largest groups of athletes to ever compete at this meet for Rider and they represented the team very well. This has been a very good year and we are expecting that to continue with one or two qualifiers at the NCAA East Regional in Florida at the end of May."
