College Cross Country
Season Begins Saturday
PENNINGTON, NJ—The Rider University Cross Country season begins Saturday, August 30, at Rosedale Park, with the annual TCNJ Blue Gold Classic.
The Classic consists of teams from Rider, Saint Joseph’s University and the host College of New Jersey, as well as cross country alums from the respective institutions.
The Rider men are picked to finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this year behind nationally ranked Iona and Canisius. The men were recently ranked 14th in the Mid-Atlantic Region preseason rankings.
“The preseason ranking is exciting for the team,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “However, we have a long season ahead of us and we need to remain healthy and catch a few breaks along the way. We have a very good team and our goal is to exceed the expectations of our ranking at the Mid-Atlantic Regional.”
The Rider men will be led by senior Anthony Dentino (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), twice an All-East and a three-time All-MAAC cross country runner, who has been the first collegiate runner to finish the Blue Gold Classic the last three years.
The Rider women, picked to finish fifth in the 11-team MAAC, will be led by senior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, DE/Sussex Tech), who placed second overall at the Classic last year. Ritter holds Rider track records for the indoor mile and the outdoor 1500m, 3,000m and 3,000m steeplechase.
The race begins at 9am Saturday.
