FISHKILL, NY—For the third time in 10 years and the second time in three years, Rider University’s Barry Davis has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Davis took a team that was picked to finish seventh in the MAAC Preseason Poll and won the MAAC Regular Season Title.

Rider enters the Championship Tournament as the top seed, having won 24 of its last 30 games.

Senior Eric Thomas (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown Area) was named the MAAC Closer of the Year.  Thomas enters the MAAC tournament with 10 saves, most in the MAAC and 35th in the nation, with an earned run average of 1.07. Thomas has 34 strikeouts and just 16 walks, holding opponents to a .186 batting average.

Broncs on the First Team All-MAAC include senior catcher Eric Strano (Robbinsville), junior outfielder James Locklear (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and senior pitcher Zach Mawson (Magnolia, DE/Caesar Rodney). 

On the All-MAAC Second Team is senior outfielder Greg Fazio (Far Hills/Ridge).

Strano batted .400 against MAAC pitchers this year with 24 hits, including seven doubles, in 21 conference games, leading Rider to a 15-6 MAAC record. Strano caught 30 of the 43 games he started this year, guiding the Rider pitching staff to the best team earned run average in the MAAC.

Locklear batted .341 against MAAC pitchers this season with 29 hits and scored 19 runs in 21 MAAC games. Overall, Locklear has compiled 45 hits in 43 games this season.

Mawson enters the tournament with a 6-2 record, second best in the MAAC, and is a perfect 6-0 against MAAC teams this year. Mawson owns an earned run average of 2.90, fifth best in the MAAC.

Fazio batted .312 against MAAC pitchers this season with a .442 slugging percentage and nine (of 10) stolen bases in 21 conference games. Overall, Fazio has 10 assists from right field, the second most in all of NCAA Division I.

The Broncs also placed 12 players on the MAAC All-Academic Team; junior Biology major Vincenzo Aiello (3.549), senior Business Administration major Mickey Donnelly (3.419), senior Biochemistry major David Hafer (3.362), sophomore Business Administration major Tyler Kaiser (3.377), senior Business Administration major Zach Mawson (3.27), junior Business Administration major James Locklear (3.396), senior Human Resource Management major Mike Parsons (3.278), junior Business Administration/Sports Management major Patrick Murphy (3.66), senior Business Administration major Nick Richter (3.938), senior Secondary Education/Mathematics major Kurt Sowa (3.403), senior Business Administration major Eric Strano (3.403) and senior Marketing major Eric Thomas (3.24).

Rider (28-20) begins play in the MAAC Tournament Wednesday evening at 7pm.
