Coach Barry Honored by Golf Digest
Rider’s Barry Among Best Young Teachers
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University head golf coach Jason Barry was named one of the Best Young Golf Teachers in the United States by Golf Digest.
“We combed the 50 states, surveyed mentors and peers and students to find out: Who are the top teachers under 40?” the Digest stated in its article.
The article selected 100 instructors under the age of 40.
“To assemble candidates for this honor, we tapped every knowledgeable source we could find, from tour players to PGA sections nationwide to teachers on our state and national rankings. Then we surveyed the nominees, picked their brains and listened to their mentors and students. We looked at their accomplishments, their desire to learn, their day-to-day teaching successes-and yes, their YouTube videos. We studied their personal stories. Eventually we arrived at our list.”
The Golf Digest Best Young Teachers franchise began in 2010, but this time the list was expanded and categorized into six regions.
Barry was one of 21 selected from the Northeast and the second youngest at 28 years old.
Barry is in his fourth year at Rider. In the spring of 2015 he led the Broncs to a third place finish at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships with Rider’s best score ever (293) in MAAC competition.
Barry has been the Head Teaching professional at the Mercer County Golf Academy since 2008, where he coached over 25 tournament winners.
