BOSTON, MA – The Rider University track and field team saw strong performances on the opening day of the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The two-day event is hosted by Boston University.

“We had a decent day today,” Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer said. “We advanced three individuals and one relay to Sunday's finals. They have set themselves up for a great opportunity tomorrow in the final. They both have been consistently good all year so that should give them great confidence going into the finals.”

In the 1,000M, senior Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, NJ/Magnet) qualified for the finals with a time of 2:25.66.

“Jackson ran a very smart and controlled race,” Hamer added. “He has a lot of experience in trials and finals setting and it showed today. He raced with a lot of composure. He was the runner-up in the 1000m last year so he is very motivated to take a chance tomorrow.”

The Broncs saw both a female and male student-athlete advance to the finals in the 60M hurdles. For the women, senior Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Mount St. Mary's/Delaware Valley) posted a time of 8.54. For the men, sophomore Nate Bowie (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) crossed the finish line 8.15 seconds to earn his spot in the finals.

The Rider quartet of freshman Isaiah Jean-Baptiste (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill HS East), junior Anthony Ardino ( Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), senior Scott Wood (Florence, NJ/Holy Cross) and sophomore Dalin Hackley (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) advanced to tomorrow’s finals in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:40.54.

“The 4x800 relay ran good enough to buy themselves another race,” Hamer said. “It wasn't spectacular, but the goal is to just get through to the next day and they accomplished that today.”

Rider closes out the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Sunday, March 5.

“We have the opportunity tomorrow to collect some All-East accolades and that is the main focus for Day 2,” Hamer noted.
