Edison, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference released its 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Poll on Monday morning with Rider landing in the top-two spots in both the men’s and women’s poll as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The Bronc men received four first-place votes to earn 60 points to land atop the poll and edge out second-place Monmouth by one point. The Hawks also received four first-place votes. The Rider women came in second with 91 points courtesy of one first-place vote. On the women’s side, MAAC Indoor Champion Monmouth came in first with 99 points and nine first-place votes.

“We are excited for the outdoor season after a very successful indoor campaign,” Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer said. Outdoor is a bit different with the addition of a few different events, but we are confident that our success will carry over to the outdoor season. Monmouth is the three time defending champions so it will be a very difficult task to beat them, but we will be preparing diligently to accomplish that goal.”

Earlier this year, the Broncs Men’s team captured their first Indoor Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center. The Broncs finished in first place with 149 points, followed by Monmouth in second with 146 points. Rider was led by junior Tyree Adams (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West), who won the Men’s Long Jump and was awarded Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events. Returning for the Broncs is senior Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, NJ/Magnet), who won the 800m run at the 2017 Indoor Championships and senior Erik Adamcik (Hampton, NJ (North Hunterdon), who finished first in the Pole Vault.

At the Indoor Championships, the Rider women finished in second overal. The women had several winners including, freshman Asia Young (Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) in the long jump with a leap of 6.01M, junior Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Mount St. Mary's/Delaware Valley) in the 60M hurdles and senior Megan McGarrity (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil's Academy) in the 5,000M.

Most recently, the team competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston March 4-5. At the regional event, the Broncs performed well with several student-athletes earning All-East honors and a Rider record falling in the process. Gardner finished second in the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.53 to pick up All-East distinction, while Jackson landed in sixth in the 1,000M to earn All-East accolades as well. The highlight of the weekend was the 4x800 quartet of Isaiah Jean-Baptiste (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill HS East), junior Anthony Ardino ( Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), senior Scott Wood (Florence, NJ/Holy Cross) and Jackson finished in third-place and set a new Rider record with a time of 7:32.83 to earn All-East distinction.

Rider begins its outdoor campaign on March 25, competing in the one-day Penn Challenge in Philadelphia.
