LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Rider University women’s soccer program has announced that rising senior Emily Schmitt will captain the program in 2017. The defender has started all 35 games the last two seasons and 49 of her 52 games played over three years on the Broncs’ back line. Schmitt is also a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree.

“Emily has demonstrated during her time here at Rider many of the outstanding qualities and values required to be a successful and effective leader of this program,” said Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome. “Her teammates bestowed the honor of selecting her as team captain this year and believe her ability to lead, positive energy and selflessness will be vital to the program accomplishing its mission in 2017. The unwavering confidence given to Emily by the team is a measure of the enormous respect she has developed.”
