LAWRENCEVILLE, NJMonica Clark (Bryn Mawr, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and Toni Nino (Adelanto, CA/Silverado) had two hits apiece, but the Rider University softball team was swept by Columbia, 6-1 and 12-2 Wednesday afternoon at Herb and Joan Young Field. With the losses, the Broncs slip to 6-29, while the Lions improve to 18-20.

Consecutive doubles gave Columbia a 1-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1, before Sommer Grzybek hit a two-run double as part of a three-run third. The Lions’ lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth, with runs scoring on a wild pitch and a single. The Broncs scored their lone run of the game when Clark singled and scored on Gabby Bram’s (Jackson, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) double.

In Game 2, the Lions scored runs in five of the six innings played. Columbia scored one each in the first and second, two in the third, three in the fourth and five in the sixth. Madison Gott hit a three-run homer in the fourth and finished with four RBI’s. The two Rider runs came in the bottom of the fourth on Ellie Oruska’s (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) two-run home run to left.

QUOTES & NOTES
“From Game 1 going into Game 2, I liked our approach at the plate. We didn’t look at as many pitches. We made them make the plays. That was a positive and something we’ll continue to work on going into this weekend.” – Rider Head Coach Jaclyn Timko

Kaitlyn Kallert (Woodland Park, NJ/Passaic Valley) took the Game 1 loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
Megan Ailand (Burlingame, CA/Burlingame) pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in Game 1, striking out four, while limiting the Lions to just one hit.
Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was the losing pitcher in Game 2, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and a walk in 4.0 innings pitched.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
• Eight different Broncs had a hit.
• Oruska drove in two runs, while Bram also had an RBI.
• Nino and Bram doubled, while Oruska homered to account for Rider’s three extra-base hits.
