M. Basketball

Against UMBC junior Ryan Thompson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) compiled 16 points and nine rebounds.  Trailing 55-52, Rider out-scored UMBC 14-6, six points by Thompson, to take a 66-61 lead with 2:32 left to play. That was the 13th and final lead change of the game.  Senior Harris Mansell (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) made a three-point field goal with 6.0 seconds left to give Rider a MAAC win over Niagara Wednesday night. Mansell finished with 22 points after making a foul shots with one second left for the final score. Thompson compiled 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Holding a 53-46 lead, Rider went on an 11-0 run, five points by Mansell, to take a 64-46 lead with 15:00 left to play.

Wrestling

The Broncs won seven of 10 bouts with four major decisions and a tech fall to defeat Sacred Heart. Junior Mike Ward (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield Village) won by a major decision to give Rider a 13-9 lead in the come-from-behind victory. Rider senior Jason Lapham (West Chazy, NY/Beekmantown), ranked 29th in the nation and third in the CAA, won by tech fall to tie the score at 9-9. Senior Doug Umbehauer (Shamong, NJ/Lenape), ranked sixth in the nation and second in the CAA, won by major decision. Junior Michael Kessler (Randallstown, MD/Owings Mills), ranked 25th in the nation and second in the CAA, won by a major decision. Junior Michael Miller (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) won by a major decision. Junior Ed Bordas (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central), ranked 31st in the nation and first in the CAA, won in overtime. Sophomore Tim Trivisonno (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) won for the final score. The Broncs won six of 10 bouts to defeat Boston U. Freshman Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville) won by fall at 133. Umbehauer won by tech fall. Kessler and Rider Lapham won. Sophomore Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown) won to give Rider a 9-3 lead. Bordas won for the final score.

W. Basketball

At Fairfield junior Amanda Sepulveda (Perth Amboy) scored a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Sepulveda had 15 points against Saint Peter’s. In the win over Niagara junior Tammy Meyers (Willingboro) had her fourth career ‘double-double’ and third of the season with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. The Broncs scored 40 first half points, 12 points by Sepulveda. The Broncs lost to Manhattan despite 12 points and 11 rebounds from senior Shaunice Parker (Waldorf, Md./West Lake).

Swimming & Diving

At the MAAC Championships Steve Fletcher was named Coach of the Year and Dennis Ceppa was named Diving Coach of the Year. Senior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) won three individual events and swam on four winning relays for seven gold medals and seven new MAAC records and was named the Female Most Outstanding Performer.  Junior Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) won both the one-meter and the three-meter events, setting MAAC and pool records in both events was named the Most Outstanding Diver. Sophomore Drew Modrov (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) won three individual events and swam on two winning relays for five gold medals, while breaking a pair of pool records that were held by Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps (19.73 in the 50 free, 44.26 in 100 free) and was named the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer.

At the MAAC Championships junior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) won the weight throw (15.69m) and was third in the shot put (11.17m), senior Tabatha Haskins (Medford/Shawnee) was second in the triple jump with a Rider record distance of 11.63m, second in the long jump (5.53m), third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.61), fifth in the shot put (10.16m) and fifth in the high jump (1.55m), senior Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) was second in the high jump (1.65m), fourth in the triple jump (10.95m), fourth in the pole vault (2.30m) and sixth in the long jump (5.09m), sophomore Chelsea Callan Hazlet/Raritan) was third in the mile with a Rider record time of 5:06.94, junior Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil's Academy) finished third in the 5000 with a Rider record time of 18:19.33 and senior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) placed third in the 3000 meter (10:30.91). Senior Marcellus Manning (Richland/Buena) won the 55 meter hurdles (7.77) and was ninth in the 200 meter dash (23.67), sophomore Brian Leggett (Old Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) won the pole vault (4.42m), freshman Adam Haun (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) was second in the high jump (1.84m), fourth in the triple jump (12.75m) and sixth in the long jump (6.44m), sophomore John Clark (Pennsville) was second in the shot put (14.93m) and third in the weight throw (16.82m), junior Brandon Wolf (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was fourth in the weight throw (16.13m) and fourth in the shot put (13.66m), sophomore Derek Rogers (Williamstown/Winslow Township) was fifth in the 400 meter (51.22), seventh in the 55 meter dash (6.64) and eighth in the 200 meter dash (23.22) and sophomore Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) placed fifth in the mile (4:15.72).

Baseball

At Maryland Eastern Shore senior James Hayes Sunrise, Fla./Piper) had five hits and five RBI in the doubleheader, while senior Sean Olson (Vineland, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) added three hits and five RBI. Junior Matt McCollum (Tabernacle, N.J./Shawnee) also had five RBI in the doubleheader. In the first game senior Jimmer Kennedy (Levittown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) pitched six innings and struck out four, allowing one earned run, while the Bronc offense exploded for 10 runs in the second inning. Sophomore John Ralston (Annandale, Va./Paul VI) had four hits and scored three runs in the first game and McCollum had a double and three RBI. Sophomore A.J. Albee (Ashley, Pa./Hanover Area) doubled and tripled.
