Rider Competes at Both TCNJ and the Penn Relays on Saturday
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University track and field team concluded action at the 123rd Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field. The Broncs also had student-athletes competing in the Lions Invitational hosted by neighboring TCNJ.
In both Ewing and Philadelphia, Rider received strong performances as the team competed for the final time ahead of next week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship.
At TCNJ, senior Daria Chadwick (Summit, NJ/Summit) finished second amongst collegiate competitors in the 100M hurdles with a time of 14.36. David Gaynor (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Vo Tech.) won the shot put event with a toss of 15.66M. He also finished fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 49.66M.
The Rider throwers were dominant at TCNJ, highlighted by the Broncs placing four in the top-five in the women's discus throw. Freshman Fidele Jules (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) won the event with a throw of 42.10M, while Ashley Berry (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) came in second, Alexis Pignataro (Mount Olive, NJ/Mount Olive) landed in fourth and Ronetta Hunter (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) came in fifth.
The Broncs also got a strong showing on the men's side in sprint hurdles with Christin Patrick (East Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin) finishing second and third, respectively, in the 110M hurdles. Patrick posted an IC4A-qualfying time of 14.86 and Jefferson crossed the finish line at 14.98.
At the Penn Relays, junior Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Mount St. Mary's/Delaware Valley) finished eighth in the 100M hurdles with a time of 13.85.

“The 4x800 was pretty average at Penn,” Hamer added. “We had higher expectations today with the accomplishments of the group that we brought. Hopefully this will serve as a wake-up call going into MAACs that we need to bring it when it's required.”
“Daria really had a great weekend by getting the ECAC qualifier in the 100H,” Hamer noted. “She has stepped up just when we need her the most going into the championship portion of the season.”
- Freshman Fidele Jules set a new Rider University in the shot put on day one of the Penn Relays. Her toss of 15.03M was also an ECAC qualifier.
