Rider's Cavallaro and Hiller
at NCAA Zones
BUFFALO, N.Y.--Senior Brendan Cavallaro (Middleboro, Mass./Middleboro) and sophomore Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) are competing NCAA Zone 'A' Diving Championships hosted by the University at Buffalo March 9 and 10.
On the three-meter board Friday afternoon, Cavallaro placed 17th in the finals with a score of 552.95 with Hiller finishing 19th in the preliminary round with a score of 272.85. The top 18 divers qualify for the finals.
"It would have been awesome if both made finals," said diving coach Eric Blevins. "Three-meter isn't Trevor's strongest board and he dove really, really well. Brendan had a great warmup but it just wasn't his day. I'm happy he kept after it and made it to the finals but he struggled a bit."
As a junior, Cavallaro was 10th on the three-meter board and 31st on the one-meter at the 2011 NCAA Zones and finished 15th on the three-meter and 20th on the one-meter at the 2010 NCAA Zones during his sophomore season.
"Even though he struggled, Brendan didn't let that snow ball," Blevins added. "He could have packed it in but he kept battling and that really shows the kind of attitude he has as a diver. He wanted to end his career strong and kept after it. That shows a lot of
maturity."
The one-meter competition is Saturday.
