Egusquiza, Gonzalez Rider Athletes of Month
Virginia Egusquiza of the field hockey team and Christian Gonzalez of the cross country team have been named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in October.
Egusquiza (Getxo, Spain) compiled two goals and 10 assists in October, leading the Broncs to an 8-0 record in the month and to the Northeast Conference regular season title.
Gonzalez (Somerset, NJ/Franklin Twp.) finished third overall (of 130 runners) at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, the highest finish ever for a Bronc in the MAAC race.
"Chris has done a tremendous job this year," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "He has been able to compete with the best competition this year on a regular basis and I am real excited to watch him compete for the remainder of the season. This is a great and well deserved honor for Chris."
Egusquiza leads the Northeast Conference in assists and ranks fourth nationally, and ranks 11th in the nation in points per game.
"Virginia has helped raise our level of play in her short time here with us," said Rider head coach Lori Hussong. "She is hardworking, yet humble and continues to be a huge factor on the field for us. Without her presence our program would not be playing at the level we are."
Last year Egusquiza was the NEC Player of the Year while Gonzalez earned All-East honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
