Rider Athletes of the Month for February
Track’s Higgins, Basketball’s McKenzie
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Lamont Higgins of the track & field team and MyNeshia McKenzie of the basketball team were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in the month of February.
Higgins, a freshman sprinter from New Brunswick, NJ (St. Joseph’s) won two gold and one bronze medal at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and also had a fourth place finish.
McKenzie, a senior from Springfield, Pa. (Springfield Delco), averaged 19.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game in eight games in February.
A MAAC Player of the Year candidate as a First Team All-MAAC selection, McKenzie grabbed her 1,000th career rebound and broke the Rider career rebound record in February (1,110). Currently second in the MAAC in both scoring (19.5) and rebounding (11.1), McKenzie ranks third on Rider’s all-time scoring list (1,560).
Higgins won the 400 meters (48.88) and also ran on the winning 4 x 400 relay (3:17.82) at the MAAC Indoor Championships, placed third in the 200m (22.24) and fourth in the 60m dash (6.99).
Also in February Higgins won the 60 and the 200 at the Monmouth Collegiate Open and won both the 400 and ran on the winning 4 x 200 relay at the TCNJ dual.
