Baseball's Smith, Track's Price
Rider Athletes of the Month
LAWRENCEVILLE-Tyler Smith of the baseball team and Alicia Price of the track & field team were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for May.
Smith, a freshman from Westmont, NJ (Haddon Twp.), led Rider to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship by compiling a pitching record of 4-1 in May with five saves as the team's closer.
Price, a recent Rider graduate from Voorhees, NJ (Eastern), was named the MAAC Championships Most Outstanding Performer in the field events, leading Rider to a runner-up finish.
At the MAAC Championships, Price won both the shot put and the hammer, establishing a new MAAC record in the hammer.
Price earned All-East honors in the hammer when she placed fourth at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and qualified for the NCAA Regional in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Smith led Rider to a 16-2 month and was involved in nine of the 16 decisions. He saved two of Rider's three wins in the MAAC Championship tournament, helping Rider advance to the NCAA Regional in Austin, Texas.
For the season Smith was named the New Jersey Rookie Pitcher of the Year, compiling a MAAC-high nine saves along with a 6-4 record and an earned run average of 3.38, fourth best in the MAAC.
