Rider's Brown Honored by the MAAC
LAWRENCEVILLE--For the second time this season, freshman Steven Brown (Penns Grove) of the Rider University men's track and field team, has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Performer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Wednesday.
At the Penn State Invite on January 8, Brown tied for the top distance in the triple jump with an IC4A qualifying effort of 14.93m at the Penn State Invite. Brown finished second in the event based on criteria.
"Steven bounced back from a sub-par performance in the long jump to compete very well in the triple jump," said head coach Bob Hamer. "I was real excited to see his ability to overcome some adversity. It is a testament to his character."
Brown was also recognized by the MAAC when he made his first collegiate meet a memorable one by delivering a win in the triple jump (14.79m) and placing third in the long jump (7.14m) at Princeton's New Year's Invite on December 11.
Rider travels to West Long Branch for a dual with Monmouth Thursday.
