Track Home Meet Saturday

This Saturday the Rider men's and women's track & field teams will make their only home appearance prior to hosting the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in May.

The meet, which features teams from Georgian Court, Loyola Maryland, Philadelphia University and Sacred Heart, begins at 12 noon with the pole vault. The running events begin at 12:20 pm with the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

"The team is very excited for the opportunity to compete at home," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "It is a facility that is very familiar for our field event athletes and they are looking for some breakthrough performances."

The Broncs have been led by senior Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.), the Rider record holder in the mile, sophomore David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton), the reigning MAAC Champion in the 55m hurdles, sophomore Dave Brown (Ewing), the MAAC indoor long jump champion this winter and senior Michael Soroko (Kinnelon), the IC4A Indoor Champion in the 3,000m.

The Rider women have been led by the three-time Rider Athlete of the Month this year, sophomore Mia Riley.  This winter Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) set a Rider record in the 55m (7.20) and is currently ranked second in the MAAC in the 100m and seventh in the MAAC in the 200m.

"It is also an opportunity to compete at the facility that will be used for the MAAC Championships next month," Hamer said.  "It is a small meet but it will provide many competitive chances for our athletes to achieve some outstanding marks."
