Tassello Honored by MAAC
Track & Field Performer of Week
LAWRENCEVILLE-For the second week in a row the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has chosen a member of the Rider University Track & Field team to honor.
Rider junior Nicole Tassello (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) was named the MAAC Performer of the Week for all competition April 3-10.
"Nicole is a very committed and dedicated athlete who has put in the work that is necessary to succeed as a 10K runner," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "It is a long process that does not provide immediate results. Her race this weekend was a culmination of all of that consistent work. I am real excited for her that she has received this well deserved honor."
At 28-team Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary, Tassello won the 10,000m race with a Rider record time of 37:11.06 which qualifies for ECAC Championships.
"That was great run by Nicole," said Hamer. "It was a huge performance for her."
The Rider women placed 17th in the 28-team event.
Tassello finished fifth in the 10,000m (39:20.39) at the 2011 MAAC Championships last spring.
This past winter Tassello placed eighth at the MAAC Indoor Championships in the 5,000m (18:27.49)
As a sophomore Tassello placed eighth in the 5000m (19:03.20) at the indoor MAAC Championships.
The Broncs compete at home this weekend at the Rider Invitational Saturday afternoon.
