BETHLEHEM, Pa./PRINCETON, N.J.-The Rider University men's and women's track and field teams competed this weekend at both the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College and Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.

For the Rider women at Moravian, junior Erin Fitzgibbons (Sayreville) won the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:38.99), junior Nicole Tassello (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) won the 5000 meter (18:22.10) and freshman Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech)  was third in the 5000 meter (18:44.22).

"Nicole is having a great season," Hamer said.  "She has worked so hard to get where she is and I'm excited with the results that she is achieving."

Tassello was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Performer of the Week last week for her efforts at the Rider Invitational.

"Our goal was to put our student-athletes in successful situations where they could not only compete but succeed and continue to gain confidence," Hamer said.  "Going to both events allowed a number of our athletes to compete and they rose to the occasion.  It was a little bit of a juggling act with the weather change possibilities and the logistics of two events but they just went out and competed and that was the real goal of the weekend.  One of the keys to our success is the psychological aspect and judging by the results, we handled that well."
