Rider at Wildcat Invitational
Broncs place 17th of 20 / Wycoff 48th of 105
MALVERN, Pa.--The Rider University golf team competed at the 36-hole, two-day Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova University at the 7,009 yard, par 71 White Manor Country Club April 3-4.
For Rider, senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) shot 157 for the tournament (75-82) to finish 48th out of 105 golfers. Wycoff had two of Rider's three birdies on Sunday.
"Jordan played great yesterday," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "And he really hung in there today after a tough start."
Also for the Broncs, senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) scored 166 for the 36-hole event after shooting 78-87 to finish tied for 81st.
Freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) shot 169 (86-83) and was tied for 90th, junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) shot 170 (83-87) and tied for 93rd and senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) shot 88-92 (180) to finished tied for 102nd.
Delaware won the 20-team competition with a 579 (290-289), finishing two shots ahead of Towson (581). Villanova was third (596) followed by Temple (604) and Long Island (610).
Youngstown State was sixth (612), followed by Georgetown (615), Sacred Heart (616), Saint Peter's (618) and Fairleigh Dickinson (619).
Hartford and Saint Joseph's tied for 11th (620), followed by Central Connecticut (622), Drexel (626) and Binghamton (627).
Siena was 16th (629), followed by Rider (661), Hofstra (664), Wagner (673) and Penn State-Abington (688).
Rider participates at the 54-hole Princeton Invitational April 9-10.
"We have a lot of work to do to get ready for next week," Whartenby said. "We just have to work on getting our confidence back."
