Rider at Mount St. Mary’s Invitational – Day One
LITTLESTOWN, Pa.--The Rider University golf team is competing at the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational, hosted by the 7,027 yard, par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course and the Broncs are in eighth place out of nine teams after the first 36 holes of the 54 hole tournament.
Junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) shot 157 (77/80) and is tied for 23rd out of 56 golfers to lead the Broncs.
"Chris is playing well right now,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “He's not making big numbers or mistakes."
Also for the Broncs, senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) shot 158 (83/75) and is tied for 28th, senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) scored a 159 (80/79) and is tied for 32nd, freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) is tied for 35th after a 160 (77/83) and senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) is 53rd after shooting 174 (91/83).
As a team, Rider shot 634.
"We still keep plugging away,” Whartenby said. “We had a great opportunity to go very low but we just struggled a bit in the very beginning. Hopefully tomorrow we can continue our momentum."
Fordham leads the field with a 593, followed by Monmouth (598), Mount St. Mary’s (601), Fairfield (607), Robert Morris (608), Saint Peter’s (618) and Wagner (631). Maryland Eastern Shore rounds out the nine team field after firing a 666.
Last season, Rider was fifth out of eight teams with then senior Eric LeFante placing runner-up and Accorsini finishing tied for third.
The final 18 holes are on Tuesday.
