LAWRENCEVILLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match against Loyola Monday afternoon.
"There were a lot of long rallies," said head coach Ed Torres. "The scores were not indicative of the competitiveness of the match. Loyola was steadier and made less errors and that's why they won the match."
For the Rider men, senior Will Haight (Sewell/Washington Township) lost a tough three-set battle at first singles.
"Will had a three-set match," said Torres. "He played well, battling through a sore elbow. Each player at number one singles, as is traditionally done, went for quick winners and Will went toe to toe with the Loyola player. It came down to a 6-4 score in the third set with each player going for the big shot."
For the Bronc women, senior Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley Regional) won six games at first singles with freshman Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) also winning six games at second singles.
The Rider men host N.J.I.T on Wednesday at 3pm with the women's team hosting La Salle on Thursday at 3pm.
