Rider at Navy Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, MD-The Broncs competed shorthanded in the doubles portion of the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational Friday, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. "We had two players out with injuries and two who didn't make the trip due to illness," said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

In flight A doubles senior Mallory Garbaravage (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) and junior Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) lost to the Loyola doubles team of Andie Keyser and Sabrina Fedele 8-3.

In the consolations, they played the Monmouth team of Brooke Verdiglione and Reciel Arribe, losing 8-6.

In flight B doubles, junior Tricia Ashmore (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and freshman Kim Leder (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) lost to the Navy doubles team of Erin Snook and Dye Das 8-1.

"Tricia usually plays with (sophomore) Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional), who was out with the flu," Torres said. "If those two played together I think they would have won down here. They play well together. Tricia played well today. She has a good serve and good ground strokes."

In the consolations, they lost to the Monmouth team of Britney Dupuis and Shelby Goldman, 8-4.

"I thought we played fairly well," Torres said. "We could have played better. We missed a few volleys. In the 8-6 match a point here, a point there and you win 8-6."

Play continues Saturday and Sunday with singles competition.
