Head Coach

Barry Davis begins his 14th season at Rider during the 2017-18 academic year.  Following his 13th season with the Broncs, he had a career record of 904-549-1, highlighted by 333 wins at Rider.

He picked up his 900th career victory on Monday, May 15, in a 6-5 win against Monmouth. It gave the Broncs a series victory and helped them secure the No. 6 seed in the MAAC Baseball Championship.

In 2016, The Broncs won their first MAAC Tournament game since 2013. The team saw starting pitcher Nick Margevicius earn First Team All-MAAC distinction and nine student-athletes land on the MAAC All-Academic Team. During the season, six different players earned weekly honors for their play on the field from both the MAAC and College Sports Madness. In April, Tyler Kaiser was also tabbed as the Rider Male Athlete of the Month.

The 2016 campaign saw three different Broncs record their 100th career hits with two more returners on the verge of reaching the milestone.

In 2010 he led Rider to a program-best 36 wins and in 2011 and again in 2013 he set the program record with 34 regular season wins.

Davis was honored as the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and it marked the third time in 10 seasons that Davis has won the award.

The 2013 MAAC Coach of the Year, Davis led Rider to the regular season title in 2015 and 2013. In 2015 Rider won 24 of its final 30 regular season games. In 2013 he compiled his third 30-win season in four years.

Davis collected his 800th collegiate victory when Rider defeated Lehigh on April 9, 2013.

In just his fourth season at Rider Coach Davis led the Broncs to the 2008 NCAA Tournament as champion of the MAAC and repeated that accomplishment in 2010, guiding Rider to the MAAC Title and to the NCAA Regional at Austin, Texas.

Davis' Broncs made the four-team MAAC playoffs six straight years (2008-13).

Davis was named the Rider head coach in July of 2004. In his first year he led Rider to a 21-win season, including a 14-13 record in the MAAC. In his second season, he was named the co-winner of the MAAC Baseball Coach of the Year award, leading the Broncs to a playoff berth and a third place finish in the MAAC.

In 2010 Davis was named the New Jersey College Baseball Association Division I Coach of the Year.

In 2008 his team defeated the top seed, Canisius, and beat the third seed, Siena, two out of three games to win the MAAC tournament, held at Mercer County's Waterfront Park, and advance to the NCAA Tournament in Fullerton, California.

Prior to coming to Rider Davis was the head coach at Georgia Southwestern State University from 2001-2004.

The four-time NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Year at Gloucester County College, Davis has compiled 818 victories in his head coaching career with just 404 losses, including 247 wins at Rider and an 11-year stint at Gloucester CC where he won four National Junior College titles and eight Regional Championships.

Davis was 137-87 at Georgia Southwestern, winning the 2002 conference regular season and finishing with a National NAIA Ranking of fifth, earning Georgia Dugout Club NAIA Coach of the Year honors. Davis has sent 21 of his players on to the professional ranks, including Jerry Mulderig of the 2013 team, Mike Thomas and Nate Eppley of the 2011 squad, Jamie Hayes of the 2009 squad and Scott Knazek of the 2006 Rider squad.

Davis also coached the National Junior College Athletic Association all-star team in 1999 which defeated Team Canada.

A 1987 graduate of Bridgewater (VA) College, Davis has assisted at George Mason and Frostburg State. Davis was an All-Conference and All-State shortstop at Bridgewater, earning team MVP honors as a junior.

Davis is Rider's eighth baseball coach and just the third since 1960. He resides in Morrisville, PA.
