Rider's Strano Honored by College Sports Madness
College Sports Madness has named Rider's Eric Strano Madness Baseball MAAC Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during this past week's action.
Strano, a freshman catcher from Robbinsville, hit a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Rider a 2-1 lead in the 2-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Siena. "Huge hit," Rider head coach Barry Davis said of his rookie catcher. "Aren't many hits bigger than that. He's coming around after struggling a bit early."
"I was looking for a fastball, knowing with bases loaded he had to pitch to me," Strano said. "He gave me a fastball a little bit outside so I just took it that way. It wasn't hit that hard but good enough to get the job done."
Strano had two hits in Rider's doubleheader sweep. "He does some good things for us," Davis said of Strano.
Strano has 22 hits in 30 starts for the Broncs, who are currently in fourth place in the MAAC. From behind the plate he has thrown out five attempted base stealers.
