Tracksters are Athletes of Month for May
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Lamont Higgins and Emily Ritter of the track & field team were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in May.
Higgins, a freshman from New Brunswick, NJ (St. Joseph’s-Metuchen), won two gold medals and a silver at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, and earned All-East honors at the ICAAAA Championships.
Ritter, a junior from Millsboro, Delaware (Sussex Tech), compiled a second and a third place finish at the MAAC Championships, earned All-East honors at the ECAC Championships and qualified for the NCAA Regional.
Ritter placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the MAAC Championships while setting a new Rider record in the event. She placed third at the ECAC Championships with another new Rider record and with a time good enough to qualify for the NCAA First Round.
Higgins won the MAAC 400m and anchored the winning 4 x 100 relay, while placing second in the 4 x 400 relay. At the IC4A meet Higgins broke the Rider record in the 400 (47.72) that stood for 19 years.
