Gardner, Kaiser named April Athletes of the Month
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Junior women's track & field athlete Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Delaware Valley) and senior baseball player Tyler Kaiser (Mooretown, NJ/Moorestown) have been named Rider Athletes of the Month for April. Gardner earns her second-straight honor after setting two new Rider records at the Penn Relays, while Kaiser earned his 100th career hit as part of a highly-successful month.
Gardner set the two Rider records within a 20-minute span at the Penn Relays. Her shuttle hurdle relay knocked four seconds off the record at 56.72, before she came back to run 13.79 in the 100 hurdles to make the championship final. She finished eighth in the finals at another impressive time of 13.85. She also won the 100 hurdles at the Larris Ellis Invitational, the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and the Rider Invitational. She was also second at the Colonial Relays in a then-Rider record time of 13.99. Gardner was named MAAC Track Performer of the Week twice in April.
Kaiser hit .375 with a .481 on-base percentage, five doubles, a triple, four home runs and 15 RBI's in April. He was 5-for-5 in stolen-base attempts and had five assists from left field. Kaiser helped the Broncs win eight of their first 11 contests in the month and posted his 100th career hit. For the season, as of the end of April, he led the Broncs, hitting .308 with five home runs and 29 RBI's.
