Broncs Perform Well at Georgetown

Men: Rider University 134, Georgetown University 103

Women: Georgetown University 143, Rider University 82

WASHINGTON, DC – The Rider University swimming and diving team headed south to take on Georgetown University on Monday afternoon at the Albert G. McCarthy, JR. Pool. The men remained unbeaten in dual meets, topping the Hoyas, 134-103, while the women lost, 143-82.

For the Rider men, it was the 16 dual-meet victory in a row and their sixth of the season. The Broncs winning streak dates back to the 2014-15 season.

Four different Rider male swimmers won two events. Senior William Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) took first in the 200 free (1:43.42) and teamed with classmate Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, MD/Old Mill), brother Zack Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) and sophomore Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) to win the 200 free relay (1:25.22). Martir won the 50 free (21.52) finishing just ahead of Zach Molloy (21.53).

Zach Molloy was also victorious in the 100 fly (46.72), while freshman Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) finished first in the 200 individual medley (1:55.05) and the 200 back (1:50.81). Freshman Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) won the 200 fly (1:54.90) and senior Sam Cramer (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) took the 1,000 free. Sophomore Griffin Hutton (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton HS West)  finished second in both the 1,000 free (9:56.38) and the 200 fly (1:55.44).

For the women, junior Hannah Bayer (Forest Hill, MD/Bel Air) was the top finisher in the 500 free with a time of 5:30.07. For the second straight dual meet, junior Julianna Runk (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) won a race. She took the top spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.07) finishing just ahead of teammate Tara Maniace (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) (2:34.64). The Bronc quartet of redshirt freshman Natalie Carter (Yucaipa, CA/Riverside City/Yucaipa), senior Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), junior Baileigh Vanderhoof (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) and Victoria Evans (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won the 200 freestyle relay.

In the diving events, sophomore Joseph Warker (Reading, PA/Wilson)  finished second in both the 1M (261.15) and 3M (254.32). He was just edge out by .82 points by Georgetown’s Ryan Blom. Sophomore Breanne Hatter (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown HS South) ended in third in the 3M (223.14), while Rider freshman Meg Tomayko (Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel) also came in third-place in the 1M (247.87).  

The swimming and diving teams return to action on Tuesday, January with a home dual meet against MAAC rival Monmouth. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm at Coppola Pool. It is the final home event of the 2016-17 season for the Broncs.
