BOSTON, MA – The Rider University track and field team concluded the 2017 BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. On the second day of the two-day event, the men took part in both track and field events, while the only race on the women’s side was the distance medley relay.

“We had some decent efforts on the track today,” Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer said. “The Boston University track is a great facility that usually allows for the opportunity to get some IC4A qualifying marks and a lot of PRs.  We were hoping for a few more of each of those today, but I really think we made a lot of progress towards achieving our goals with the results.”

The men’s 800 meter run saw a pair of Broncs cross the finish line with IC4A qualifying times. Senior Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, NJ/Magnet) finished sixth in the event with a time of 1:50.89, while junior Anthony Ardino (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) landed in 31st-place with a new personal-best time of 1:53.79.

Anthony Ardino had a great meet this weekend,” Hamer noted. “He ran a great leg on the distance medley relay last night and followed that up with a big PR in the 800 today.  He had been struggling a bit lately so it was really exciting for him to have such a breakthrough meet.”

The Rider 4x400 meter relay team of Jackson, Jordan Davis (Absecon, NJ/Saint Joseph HS/Hammonton), Alvin Abraham (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and Russell Malko (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) ran an IC4A qualifying-time 3:19.74.

“We now turn our focus to the annual TCNJ Rider dual meet next Friday,” Hamer added. “The meet always has a great atmosphere that usually leads to some great competition and performances by both teams.  This will really give us a good indication to where our team really is in the last two weeks leading up to the MAAC Championships.”

The Broncs return to action on Friday, February 3, with a dual meet against neighboring TCNJ. The meet is slated to begin at 6:50 pm at the Edward J. Lavino Field House in Lawrenceville.
