Rider Home Saturday and Sunday

LAWRENCEVILLE—And down the stretch they come.

The Rider University softball team is using Derby weekend to complete the final four-game home stretch and hit the wire on the 2016 regular season.

Post time for the Broncs vs. Quinnipiac University on Saturday is 1pm at Herb and Joan Young Field for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader and Rider will celebrate senior day on Sunday at 2pm when Delaware State University visits town for a non-conference doubleheader.

Senior Kim Valdes leads Rider (8-38, 5-13 MAAC) in batting average (.330) with senior Montana Berg hitting .314.

Preseason All-MAAC performer, senior Dana Sensi is hitting just below .300 (.294) but her 24 RBI, 13 doubles and 17 walks lead the squad.  A 188-game veteran (all starts), Sensi enters play 10th all-time on Rider’s hit list with 180.

Quinnipiac enters play in the middle of a six-game conference stretch that saw the Bobcats host Canisius College Friday, travel to Rider Saturday and Quinnipiac hosts Niagara University on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.

Delaware State is 25-16 and the Hornets enter play having swept La Salle University on Tuesday.

Rider celebrates the careers of five graduating seniors on Sunday, prior to the opening game, Montana Berg, Emily Cottrell, Samantha Judd, Dana Sensi and Kim Valdes.

Judd is an 84-game veteran with a career fielding percentage of .984 and the two-time MAAC All-Academic honoree is graduating with majors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing and International Business.
